Finding Your Shamanic Reiki Spirit Guide
At the core of any shamanic practice, regardless of where in the world it’s practiced, is the belief that anyone can access the world of spirit to seek help and guidance. Up until now in this chapter, we’ve accessed the spirit realm of our own accord by establishing our sacred place and by merging with the energy force and symbols. To engage spirit on another very intimate level, we can establish a relationship with a personal Shamanic Reiki healing guide. The formula we suggest next is as ageless as shamanism.
In our brief discussion of the shamanic journey at the beginning of this book, we mentioned that often the first journey people take into the spirit reality is to find a guide. In many cases, that guide takes the shape of an animal, but it could also appear as a person or object. It’s important to establish a relationship with our guide (or guides) and to know that finding one isn’t difficult. Earlier, we suggested that you imagine rising up into the sky to seek the source of Reiki. Now, instead of imagining going up, after you’ve anchored within your sacred place, imagine yourself going down. It’s easiest just to feel yourself sinking through the floor and into the earth.
Allow yourself to travel down awhile, so your left-brain knows you’ve left this reality, and imagine yourself coming out into a world that looks exactly like ours. You may find yourself in a forest, in a meadow, by a stream, on a beach, or literally anywhere. What’s the difference, you may ask, between this world and ours if they look alike? In our world, people communicate and things appear solid. In the spirit world, everything is alive, mutable, and can communicate with us. Just as you spoke to the Reiki energy, just as you asked your client to speak to the higher self of a person energetically connected to them or to their own higher self, you call out now for your spirit guide. Who or what do you call out to? Whatever you sense, imagine or intuit that’s present (rocks, trees, clouds or other), remembering that everything in the spirit reality can communicate with us. Keep in mind that these guides are often just waiting to be discovered and are excited to begin working with you, so they may appear quickly.
Don’t have any expectations, but accept whatever guide comes, from a lion, a ball of light, to a mouse or wizened master. All spirit guides wield power and this power isn’t linked to size, weight or appearance, as happens in our world. Ask if this is your Shamanic Reiki guide. No words may be spoken. If you perceive the answer is yes then you can begin. But if you sense the answer is no, simply ask it to please take you to your Shamanic Reiki guide. Allow this daydream to evolve a life of its own. Flow with it remembering that you can do, and be, anything you wish.
